Sigfried has a problem. He is lonely and he has no friends. Maybe it’s because
he’s purple and has a big nose. Or maybe it’s just because he’s shy. But
whatever it is, Sigfried is determined to solve his problem.
A Monstrous Problem by Dawn Phelps (McConnell) is the beautifully illustrated
children’s story of Sigfried’s search for friendship and love. It is now in
print and available for purchase. Profits from the book will benefit the Dawn
Phelps McConnell Scholarship at Young Audiences to support the Artists in
Residence program. The cost of the book is $20.50. This includes shipping.
Dawn Phelps McConnell was (among her many talents) a visual artist who always
said that the influence most evident in her work came from 10 years of teaching
and creating art with children. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Art from the
University of Oregon and a Master of Arts in Teaching from Lewis & Clark
College. Dawn died of cancer in 2007 in Portland, OR.
