Young Audiences of Oregon and SW Washington was founded in 1958. Their services
have evolved from presenting only a few classical music performances to
currently providing a roster of over 200 skilled residency and performing
artists with programs in multiple artistic disciplines and cultures. They
connect these artist with classroom teachers and together they use the arts to
make learning come alive for their students.

Dawn was one of those 200 artists who connected with classrooms of children,
teaching them to paint faces on garden pots. She loved her time with the kids
and the feelings were mutual. The kids wrote her letters of thanks and drew
priceless drawings of their time in her classroom. It is with these
relationships in mind that the Dawn Phelps McConnell Scholarship at Young
Audiences was born. Profits from the sale of her prints, cards and book will go
to help fund other artists in residency and art programs in local schools.
Eighty percent of Young Audiences budget goes to program expenses, just 9% to
administration and the remaining 12% to fund raising. Forty-five percent of the
funds raised come from the schools themselves who conduct an annual Run For The
Arts jogathon. We fall into the all-important 12% “individuals” category and we
are proud to be there. Thank you for helping make this contribution in Dawn's
name.
You may also make a contribution directly to the fund at Young Audiences. This
gift would be 100% tax deductible as no goods (Dawn artwork) would be received
for your donation. To make a contribution please click Here
